Passing the torch…

We have big news! Everybody Edits has a new owner!  MrShoe and MrVoid are very busy people and could no longer find time to work on the game. What does this mean for the game then? More updates, bug fixes, and more feature implementation.

Our first task was to extend the Everybody Edits staff.  We have asked Toop, Master1, Thanel, and UltraBass to help us. They have all agreed, and so the new Everybody Edits team is now:

Moderators: NVD, JaWapa, Toop.
Guardians: Kingoftheozone, Thanel, UltraBass, Master1.

The second thing we did, was work extensively on updates. As soon as we heard the news that we were going to run the game now, we instantly went to work. With the entire team working very hard, we are about to release one of the biggest updates ever to EE.

See you in the worlds,
The new Everybody Edits team.

EDIT: Beta is now available in the Energy Shop for $7,50

Bye bye magic!

Hey everybody, I’m too lazy to write an introduction thingy, so let’s just start with the changelist:

  • Removed magic classes.
  • Added new basic, beta, brick, checker, basicbg, brickbg, checkerbg, darkbg and normalbg blocks.
  • Changed energy time to 1:30 instead of 2:30.
  • You now have all your portals, but x5. Also when you buy them.
  • Changed Woot count to 10.
  • Added more id’s to switches.
  • Changed a lot of user interface things.
  • Added a new package. Don’t ask me what it is, because it’s extremely secret and hard to get (or find). And no, you can’t obtain it by having Builders Club :D
  • Added the DJ Smiley to the drums package.
  • Fixed several bugs.

Oh, almost forgot! Processor is now a moderator of Everybody Edits! So please start annoying him when you see him. I’m sure he’ll like that.

Because we knew the energy would drop, we changed it so you get +1 energy every 1,5 minutes instead every 2,5 minutes. We also lowered the shop prices because of this. It might not look fair, but I think now having 200-300 energy is as much as having 400-500 energy before this update.

See you in the worlds, The Everybody Edits Team

– Fixed a bug where you could place fully invisible blocks in other worlds.

Effect blocks

We have eliminated potions completely. Instead, we’ve added effect blocks to use in your levels! Each effect has its own activation and deactivation block. You will see an icon on the top left of your screen when an effect is active. They cost 750 energy each, one-time purchase for infinite uses. The team blocks are 750 energy per 10. To compensate for the loss of any potions, we’ve temporarily put the Jump effect on sale for 10 energy!

– Jump effect
Jump twice as high!
Cg2aRCF.png

– Speed effect
Run 50% faster!
KUXypLx.png

– Fly effect
Hold space to fly!
0I6w0lG.png

– Protection effect
Hazard can’t kill you; removes curse and zombie status.
s9yXpf7.png

– Teams
Hit a colour to join that team. Each colour has its own doors and gates!
An icon on your smiley as well as in the user list shows what team you’re in. Hit the grey team block to go back to neutral.
IlEH606.png

– Curse effect
Hit this block to start a curse; hit someone else to transfer the curse to them. Set a timer on how long the curse lasts,
which then kills the cursed player! A maximum of 3 curses can be active at a time.
rKmA7ez.png

– Zombie effect
Hit this block to turn into a zombie, moving 40% slower and jumping 25% lower. Set a timer for how long you turn into a zombie,
after which you die.

We really wanted to fix this:
– Fixed a bug where you could get stuck in a corner with boosts.
But it turned out to be much, MUCH more complicated than anticipated . It has been keeping back the rest of the patch for a week already, so for now we want to launch these fixes while working on a proper fix (without side effects!) for the boost corners.

We’re aware there are more bugs left, but one at a time. Still, keep reporting those bugs (preferably in the bug report section) to help us keep track of anything in need of fixing.

There’s a new Guardian in town!

TheSource85 Hi everyone, today I’ve had the pleasure of becoming a new guardian to the game!

A little bit about myself: I’m 30 years old, an IT professional (system administrator, technical application management (DBA), PHP developer) and I love to play musical instruments..

Please don’t spam me with pointless questions; I do like to be a little nuts sometimes, but I’m also very serious about a lot of stuff. I’m just a guardian, not a moderator, so I can’t do stuff other then keeping peace or kick spammers.

Enjoy the game and be nice!

Streamlining

Hi guys!
We bring you another update on this amazingly sunny day! This patch was focused on the organization of stuff, paving the path towards a more user-friendly and streamlined game. Currently, the game may come across as overwhelming to new users as well as disorganized to veterans, so we have made a start on fixing this.

Block revamps

We continue on our journey of cleaning up after the previous staff: little thought was given to the organization of the blocks. Considering the large amount of blocks and the lack of organization when adding these, we felt it was time for some re-organization and revamping of existing blocks. We have done this in three steps:
1: Moved blocks over from pack to pack
2: Turned several of the same blocks into single morphing ones
3: Revamp the looks
Listing all changes would turn into a 50-page annotated PhD-worthy thesis, so instead we will list the most significant ones:

1: Pack re-organization
We have moved blocks between packs as well as renamed some to form more coherent themes and reduce the amount of separate packs. Don’t panic! You get to keep all blocks. In fact, this can work out in your favour! If you owned a pack that is now part of another pack, you gain the entire new one for free. Some existing packs even got new blocks!

– Added 3 new desert flora to the newly named Desert Pack. Es0Kcox.png
– Sci-Fi pack has gained an additional colour. mgiN2vT.png
– The Monster Pack has an additional creepy eye and 4 new backgrounds. 3CWKnvC.pngqIewcen.png
– The Candy Pack has a new larger cream decoration and 3 new pieces of candy. QqkqTO9.png
– The Canvas Backgrounds gained 2 new colours. LrR1627.png
– The Dojo Pack gained 4 new backgrounds. ePxtigy.png

2: Morphable blocks
To morph a block, click it multiple times.
Note: Some items have been split into two separate ones. This is due to the way some blocks were created originally, which severely limited their use. For example, the wooden scaffolding background blocks in the Timbered pack: because of their white background, they couldn’t be placed with any other colour scheme:
z3jCTb3.pnghas turned into HKP3DlA.png

Unfortunately, we cannot replace the existing ones with the two others without a great risk of ruining your worlds. Therefore, we have decided to go the safe route and stick to the original as close as possible. However, this does mean some stars/scaffolding will disappear from your worlds, which you can add back yourself. We realize this is not an ideal scenario, but still the best one.

– Mars backgrounds are now a background and a separate set of star decorations
– Weapons  in the medieval pack can now morph into different directions.
– Weapons/shields in the medieval pack can now morph into different colours.
erdvJ1v.png
– Dojo roof somethings can now morph into different colours. gfGEEJD.png
– Dojo sign decorations now have a transparent background.

– The wooden scaffolding (originally in the Timbered Backgrounds) is now a morphable decoration in the Medieval Pack.

– Monster decorations can now morph into different directions.

3: Looks revamp
– Updated the looks of the winner’s cup
– Updated the looks of the flame hazard
– Zombie doors and gates no longer show as transparent on the minimap.

– Added a rope block, which functions as a ladder. PiGNMKP.png
– Added Clay Blocks.
Note: if you owned the Timbered Pack, you get this for free!
kCFhVpU.png
– Added Neon Backgrounds
Note: if you owned the Carnival Pack, you get this for free!
GuWHpGR.png

– Replaced artificial shading on blocks with real shading.
– Decorations that are rendered on top of blocks no longer appear floating due to weird shading.
– Signs and several decorations are now rendered on top of players.
– Hovering  the curses over morphable blocks now shows a blue square around the relevant blocks.
– Rearranged the action blocks in a more sensible order .
Kihc39N.png

Chat

– Increased maximum message length from 80 to 140.
– Decreased capital letter sensitivity.
– Removed /r command; press BACKSPACE to reply to the last received PM.
– World filter options are now available to everyone.
– You now receive a prompt when reporting someone.
– Capital letters in commands now count as a valid command.

UI

– Text bubbles from signs now have rounded corners.
– The death counter icon has been updated.
– Spectating now displays a text to indicate you are spectating.
– Clicking anywhere in the screen now allows you to stop spectating.
zCYfJ8j.png
– Added a colour picker for Background Settings under Word Options.
NJfuFL6.png

Bug fixes

– Dying+levitation no longer makes you a flying invisible corpse.
– Zombie doors and gates no longer show as transparent on the minimap.
– Having a Builder’s Club Aura set when it expires no longer gives you a weird aura.
– Builder’s Club expiring no longer causes a sync error when joining a level.
– Fixed some issues with commands returning the “Unknown command” message.

Other

– World names on profiles are now censored if word filter is enabled.
– You now receive a prompt when buying an item with gems to prevent incorrect purchases.
0QC08zz.png
– Using the /reset command now also resets switches.
– A message is now displayed when someone is unable to join your world due to world settings.
– Added IP-bans to get rid of the really pesky users.
– Levitation now has its old animation back. kbuDfK4.png

Afterword

We are very much aware of your concerns when it comes to the rarity of Magic Coins. We’re working on a fix, which should follow shortly after this patch.

But more importantly, we highly recommend you get BETA for the next update if you don’t have it yet. We want to involve players in beta testing the new content again, and especially for the next update, you will definitely want to! We have been working on something massive, and will continue to do so until it is done, and it will be released to BETA members before anyone else. It will be one of the biggest things Everybody Edits will have ever seen and will change it for the better in a major way…

…stand by.

Hey guys,

As you may have noticed, EE has undergone some major changes on several levels, of which its staff is one.
While I’m sure you guys know most of us by name, we’ve been receiving many questions about who we actually are, what it is like being part of the staff, and especially,  what we actually do for EE; we want to make this clear.  Because we like being part of the community as much as any other player, I’ll start off by providing an overview of the staff, some basic personal details, and the role of each respective member. After that, I’ll provide some insight into our vision of the game, list things you can expect from us and what we expect from you, and finally, answer the legendary question of “pls caen i be mod how 2bcme mod?”. I hope you’re in for a long read.

DON’T GIVE AWAY YOUR PASSWORDS. EVER!

$
0
0

Hi guys,

I’d like to start off with the following:

DON’T. EVER. GIVE. AWAY. YOUR PASSWORD. TO ANYONE. EVER.

Ok? Ok, now for the actual post.

It has recently come to our attention that there’s a lot of phishing going on. What’s phishing you ask? Simply put, someone tries to gain your trust to steal your sensitive information. In the case of Everybody Edits, people are pretending to be (secret) admins/mods and use some excuse to ask for your password. For example:

ExampleExample2

If you give away your password, they will steal your account and abuse it. So don’t do it! The staff will never, ever, ask for your passwords, so don’t give them out to anyone!

These are people trying to “hack” you. If someone sends you a PM like this, report them using the  /report command with a link to the PM chat history. For anyone attempting this, this is a serious offence, you will be IP banned if you attempt this, and possibly have all your accounts deleted.

Also, there is no such thing as secret mods, so don’t listen to anyone saying they are. If you’re in doubt whether you’re talking to a staff member, the staff members’ name ingame will be yellow/gold or purple.
Also, the list of staff members can be found here: http://eeforums.cf/viewtopic.php?id=28424

Also, DON’T. EVER. GIVE. AWAY. YOUR PASSWORD. TO ANYONE. EVER. NOT OUTSIDE OF EE EITHER!

Stay safe
The Everybody Edits team

Woot system will be replaced

$
0
0

Hi guys,

As I’m sure some of you noticed during the campaign preview video, the top right corner didn’t display woots and there was a “Favorite this world!” button when beating the campaign level.

This is because woots will be replaced by “Favorites” and “Likes”.

Why?
Currently, woots are completely meaningless. Anyone can theoretically spend an infinite amount of woots on a level, either by coming back each day, rejoining or even using extra accounts. People woot to get edit rights, woot to get “gold” in a bot level, woot to announce them leaving the level, or simply woot because they have 10 of them and they don’t know what to do with them.

Because of this, woots aren’t rare in any way and therefore this “currency” is meaningless. Woots were meant to be a display of quality, to praise a world, but when it was first implemented it missed the mark due to its design. Therefore, woots are being replaced with “Likes” and “Favorites”

How  do “Likes” and “Favorites” work?
The system will work similar to YouTube. On the top right in a level and in the lobby you will see the amount of Likes/Favorites a world has. You can “Like” a world, and you can “Unlike” it. You only get to spend 1 Like per level, ever, making it much more meaningful than woots.
Similarly, you can “Favorite” a world, which means you will also be able to keep track of all your favorite worlds and easily find them again.
When Liking/Favoriting a world, no notification will be displayed in chat. We want it to be meaningful, and liking (and then sneakily unliking!) a world to get edit rights is not a display of quality, which is what this system is for.

What does this mean for my worlds?
Woots will go and Likes and Favorites will take its place. This means your woots are no longer displayed and everyone has a fresh start.

Profile URLs have been changed to know look like this: www.everybodyedits.com/profiles/username

Previously, URLs looked like this: www.everybodyedits.com/profiles/?/username
Which was fine, but it contained a random ‘/?/’ that made the URL kind of messy, and inconsistent with world URLs.

If you have any links pointing to someone’s profile, I suggest you change them because the old links will not work.

/?/ will now redirect to the right place.  URLs do not need to be changed.

Hey guys,
It’s finally here! Everybody Edits 2.0 has arrived! Check out all the new stuff!

Beta

Some parts of this update are in beta. This means that beta members only have access to these features to test them. For now, we have set the beta for these features to at least the 20th of September. Depending on the amount of bugs, we may extend this period! Don’t want to wait? Become a beta member by purchasing it in the shop.

Campaigns

Earn energy, blocks, smileys, gems, and increase your maximum energy by playing campaign mode!
Campaign mode permanently features worlds made by users, grouped together by difficulty and certain themes. The difficulty varies as followed:

vIjgcOb.png

This way, there’s something for everyone: a relaxed stroll through a level or a serious challenge that can take hours to beat!
Check the video preview about campaign mode. Note, the terms have been updated a bit!

Where can I play campaign mode?
In the lobby you will see a button that says “Campaigns”. Click it to get started.

Beta
For now, Campaign Mode is beta-exclusive; if you don’t have beta, buy beta access in the shop to play right away, or wait until it is released for everyone.

Rewards
In addition to the rewards mentioned above, there’s a little extra. Want to prove you’ve beaten that incredibly difficult campaign? Now you can! By beating a campaign you will unlock a badge for that campaign as a token of proof to show off to everyone! It will show up on your profile as well as the Action Menu (explained below).

Cheating
Because we’re dealing with real rewards here, trying to cheat in Campaign Mode will result in a direct ban!

Your worlds and campaigns
If your world gets added to a campaign, it has some consequences for your world. You can read all about it in our user agreement:

Where is my world for the campaigns?!
While campaign mode is still in beta, we are releasing only 1 campaign per difficulty, so if we’ve approached you for your map, it may not be in yet, but it will be! Please don’t edit your map in the meantime.

Future campaigns
We will keep adding new campaigns to the game. Of course you’re wondering, how do I get my map to be part of a campaign? Worlds within a campaign have a similar theme and difficulty level, so rather than suggestion separate maps, if you want to suggest something, suggest complete campaigns. Check the Campaign suggestions forum section to suggest your campaigns. Make sure you read the guidelines!

Crews

We proudly present: the Crew System. Working together is what makes Everybody Edits, so would like to support this. So what is the Crew System?

RnsZa36.png

You can make your own crew by buying the “Create crew” item in the shop. From there on, you can invite people and start working together. You can be in up to 10 crews at the same time with a maximum of 25 members per crew, owning a maximum of 3 crews. Note, for now, crews cannot be deleted so make sure you choose your name carefully! Because the system is new and crews already existed prior to this we will assist in making sure the right people claim the right crew names. If issues arise, contact an admin or mod. About the crews themselves, being in a crew together has a few nifty advantages:

Crew worlds
You can add a world to become part of a crew. Once this is done, the world will display the crew in addition to the world owner, and crew members automatically get edit rights when joining this world! There are a few things that tie in here…

Custom crew ranks/powers
Create and name your own custom ranks within for a crew, with a choice of the following powers:
1: Automatic edit rights in crew worlds
You can create a custom rank to give members the power to receive edit rights in crew worlds automatically.

2: Editing crew world options (saving, name, etc)
If you have been given the permissions, you can change the name and save the crew world, despite it not being your world. This way crew members can keep working on the map without the world owner having to be there.
Furthermore, you can edit the status of Crew Worlds:

  • A: WIP: World is under construction. Only crew members can join.
  • B: Open: World is accessible by everyone, crew members with the required powers can still save it.
  • C: Released: World is accessible to everyone, and only world owner can save the world.

Note: once set to Released, the world status cannot be changed anymore.

3: Editing crew logo world
Make a logo for your crew! See the Crew profile section below.

4: Buying stuff for the crew
There is a ton of stuff you can buy for your crew. In order to be able to contribute to your crew, you must be given the permissions to buy stuff for your crew. Note: you need a minimum of 260 maximum energy to be able to buy stuff for crews.

5: Managing crew worlds
Adding crew worlds can be done with this power. Note, you cannot remove a world from a crew!

6: Managing members
With the member management power you can invite new members, kick existing ones, and switch the existing ranks of members.

7: Managing ranks
Managing ranks means creating new custom ranks, choosing powers for these ranks, as well as naming them.
Crew profile
You can show off all your crew’s worlds on your crew profile! Even better, you can customize your crew profile to really show off your crew by buying customization options in the shop. Start customizing by clicking your crew name in the lobby, then click “customize”.

Dividers
If wish to divide your crew worlds into categories, buy these dividers to add them!

Crew logo world
Make your own logo for your crew! Buy a Crew Logo World in the shop. Keeping the style of the game, it’s a 100×100 world in which you can build the logo for your crew using normal blocks. The minimap will show up on your crew profile to serve as the logo. Click on your crew logo in the customization menu to enter it and start editing!

Descriptions for members
Want to say something about your crew members? Unlock this option by purchasing it in the shop. Maximum of 100 characters.

Profile colors
Customize your crew profile heavily by changing its colors! Unlock the option to change the border color and the background color of your crew profile by purchasing it in the shop to really stand out! If you’re not happy with the selected colors, you can change them again by purchasing a color change in the shop.

Faceplate
For the ultimate customization, add faceplates to your crew profile. Choose a faceplate in the shop for awesome patterns to really finish off your slick-looking crew profile.
Subscribing and alerts
You can subscribe to crews on their crew profile. The crew owner can send alerts to its subscribers to notify them that they’ve released a new world, a bot level is going to be active, need testers, etc!

Add friends by username

You can now add friends by using their username! No longer do you need their email addresses with email confirmation codes that don’t work half the time! Not only that, this is also an improvement on security because less information is shared.
To be sure you don’t get spammed with invites, you can choose to block all invites in the Settings menu.

Daily login rewards

Note: for beta members only at first!
You are now rewarded with a little bit of extra energy each day you log into the game. Keep coming back to increase your reward, don’t miss a day! Play every day for a week to receive a gem, or even more! Check the overview of rewards:

In the lobby you will now see a cog icon next to the shop; this is your settings menu. We’ve heavily expanded the options you can customize!

Game
Enable particles
Enable/disable some fancy animations ingame. Note: enabling this can cause some performance issues on slower computers.

Green on minimap:
Toggle whether see you yourself as green on the minimap.

Enable block picker:
Do you like working quickly by using the block picker, but you want to do boss levels as well? Turn the block picker on or off here.

Enable AZERTY keys:
For the AZERTY keyboard layout users among us only. Many keyboards don’t support multiple keypresses like left+up+space, which can make difficult worlds a lot harder. This can be solved by using WASD instead; because W+A+space usually does work. However, some users have a different keyboard layout, so by enabling AZERTY keys, you can use ZQSD to resolve the issue.

Enable a custom amount of minimap transparency, up to 90%. This way you can work on your art pieces art without blocking the a part of your screen.

A fancy term for a major UI improvement. Rather than typing complicated commands, you can now click a user in the userlist to open a window with a list of actions you can perform. Of course, you can keep using the commands as well. Your badge is also displayed here.

Non-invasive pop-ups

To smoothen the user experience, increase visibility of alerts, and to reduce the amount of clicks while playing, we have improved the pop-ups to automatically fade:

Likes and favorites

Woots have been replaced by Likes and Favorites.

How do “Likes” and “Favorites” work?
The system works similar to YouTube. On the top right in a level and in the lobby you will see the amount of Likes/Favorites a world has. You can “Like” a world, and you can “Unlike” it. You only get to spend 1 Like per level, ever, making it much more meaningful than woots.

vfIFSKq.png

Similarly, you can “Favorite” a world, which means you will also be able to keep track of all your favorite worlds and find them again easily in the lobby.

But I like woots! Why are they being replaced?
As posted before: Currently, woots are completely meaningless.
Therefore, woots are being replaced with “Likes” and “Favorites”.

Smileys

To allow for more creative freedom, the smiley size has been increased from 16x16px to 26x26px. Some subtle changes have been made to current smileys to make use of this change. This doesn’t affect the gameplay (the hitboxes remain the same) in any way.
Of course, there are a few new smileys!

ivzidwi.png

Cat: Have a fondness for felines? Then this smiley is for you!
Graduate: Celebrate educational success with this smiley.
Sombrero: Ready for a fiesta? Get this smiley in a traditional wide brimmed hat!

Blocks

New blocks: Environment Pack.
Start building the great outdoors with these five natural blocks and backgrounds!
5 blocks and 5 backgrounds.

Shop

The shop has had a complete overhaul to be more user-friendly. It is now easier to find what you’re looking for and spending energy has been made much easier: you can now purchase an item with 1 click by pressing “All”. This will buy you only 1 of the items, so don’t worry about accidentally buying 20 spawns. If you don’t have enough energy to buy an item, it will add all your remaining energy.

You will also find two new tabs: the crew tab and the services tab. Under the services tab you will also find a two new items:

Gem codes
Want to gift someone something? Now you can! You can convert your gems into gem codes in the shop. You can always find them back by clicking the “show my codes” button.

Name change
For 50 gems, you can now change your username. Note, you can only do this once, so choose your name carefully!.

After buying the item and choosing a new username you will be logged out. Log back in again to complete the process. Your previous username will stay on your profile:

Other
  • New command: /givegod: this allows players to enter/exit godmode, but without edit rights.
  • Command change: /godon. To prevent confusion with /givegod, /godon has been renamed to /forcefly. It functions completely the same.
  • Instructions in home world
A few system messages now show up when first joining your Home World to help new users get started.
  • Clicking a world on a profile now opens the word in a new tab/window
  • A message now shows up when trying to spectate in a world in which spectating has been disabled
  • Maximum simultaneous accounts per IP has been limited to 5
With the alert system in place, account bombing is no longer necessary. Therefore you can be at only 5 accounts online at the same.

  • Your own worlds now only show up in the room list when sorting on “MINE”
  • The cursor now changes to the “hand icon” on all buttons on the block bar for consistency.

  • /Reset now also resets team
  • The edit right message can no longer be spammed
  • Spamming backspace/enter no longer triggers chat limit
  • Fixed a typo for the /teleport command error message: plese/please.
Afterword

This day marks a new milestone in Everybody Edits; it’s the biggest update it has ever seen, in the sense of content but also the impact of the content. It affects the way the game is played while staying true to the core of the game. I hope this shows our love for the game and that you guys stay with us, and follow us into a bright future of the game. We have many more major plans for the game.
We started working on this update right after the last one at the 21st of June. This means we’ve spent almost 2 months working on this, some of us every day, especially towards the end we spent hours a day working on this, and I mean early morning till late midnight. As a relatively new team this was quite an adventure, but I think it has paid off, and I can honestly I’m proud of the teamwork, and of course of the results. So thanks guys smile
